I love Snow Days, but....

I'd prefer to know that we have a snow day BEFORE I leave for work.

I'm currently working at a school that is some distance away. My one way commute is regularly between 45 minutes and 1 hour. With the storm last night and this morning, I thought for sure we'd have a snow day.

No phone call came.

So I checked online before I left.

No Snow Day was announced on the school or district webpage.

I watched the news scrolling closings and the only schools in the town where I'm working that were closed at the time were Parochial schools.

So I left a little early.

2 hours later, I arrive at work....ON TIME!!! I walk in the office and the secretary looks at me and says..."You didn't get a phone call did you? School's cancelled."

No....no phone call.

By this time, 5 other teachers have trickled in, all of us not having received a phone call.

The Principal comes out and says "I feel really bad that you all made it out here on time and you came and we dropped the ball in not calling you. So I'm going to buy breakfast, if you'd like to stay for an hour or so and wait for the roads to get better."

So I stayed, got a whole stack of copying done.

The return trip only took 1 and a half hours.

The sad thing is...

I won't get paid for today.

Ah well.

Half a snow day is better than none.

Hey, a good (free) breakfast and hassle free copying! That's every teacher's daily wish.
