Fixing the Cracks

We knew we had cracks in our foundation, but recently we had a mini-thaw, and a little bit of water started to seep in. So this past weekend, we started to do something about it.

Mike and his friend Jon (and me too!) started by chiseling out the cracks to 1/2 inch to 1 inch in. Then the cracks were patched with hydraulic cement.

Come Spring, and when the ground thaws a bit more, we'll be digging up the ground around the foundation, chiseling out the cracks from that side, patching the cracks with hydraulic cement, covering it with a thick layer of roofing tar, placing a vapor barrior over that, filling the holes back in and slightly re-grading those areas. Hopefully, that will stop most of the water.

We also need to get the downspouts from directing the water into the cistern (where-ever it is) and direct the water out into the yard.
