I'm leaning towards a Spanish colonial feel to my kitchen. I just LOVE the handpainted Spanish and Mexican tiles. The colors! I love the mix of a warm yellow, pure blue, white and goldish-orange-y. We're already planning on painting the walls in the kitchen a nice warm creamy-yellow. What I need to choose is some tile for the backsplash behind the stove. We can't afford to go all painted tile, so I need to find a place where I can get some pieces and then mix and match with plain white tiles. Anyway,

here are some pictures of Spanish and Mexican tiles

that I pulled off the internet, so you can get a feel of what I'm talking about. If I can't find these tiles at a price I'm willing to pay (less than $6.00 per tile - I found some at $25.00 per tile!), then I will buy some plain white tile, buy some ceramic paints, and paint my own... I don't want to (too much

time) but I will if I have to. My mom has suggested that I make a trip into the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago and look through some of the stores there. Pilsen is a Mexican neighborhood. I think I'll head in sometime this week. Another idea I had was to talk to a friend of a friend who works in the Merchandise Mart. Maybe she can find seconds on some of the decorator tiles that go through there.

Just a side note. I'm not tiling my ENTIRE kitchen in this stuff. That would be TOO MUCH! These would just be accent pieces.
